Hallo!
Bei der Replace-Kernel-Option im Menuconfig steht, dass man hier seine Erfahrungen damit posten soll, deshalb mal ein Bericht, was ich so beobachtet habe:

Zuerst einmal: Es funktioniert schon Großartig, die Freetz-Entwickler haben hier wirklich tolle Arbeit geleistet!:D
Nach der Warnung in der Menuconfig hätte ich eher damit gerechnet, dass meine Box womöglich gar nicht mehr reagieren wird, aber trotz mehrerer komplett unterschiedlicher Konfigurationen und sogar eigener Zusätze im Kernel-Menuconfig hat die Box immer problemlos gestartet und ich konnte auch keine dramatischen Fehlermeldungen im dmesg finden.

Überhaupt funktionierte bei mir mit dem selbstgebauten Kern alles außer der Telefonie-Funktionalität:p. Hier dürfte vieles vom Modul isdn_fbox_fon5 abhängen, das sich mit dem Ersetzten Kernel nicht laden lässt bzw. von den Modulen dect_io und avm_dect, die beide verlangen, dass vorher das isdn_fbox_fon5 geladen wird:mad:.

Ich habe sogar eine Anpassung vorgenommen, damit mir das Modul ipt_MASQUERADE in der Menuconfig zur Verfügung steht, das normalerweise ab Kernel >2.6.19 ausgeblendet wird. Auch damit konnte ich Images bauen, mit denen die Box bootet. Das Masquerade-Modul (und somit auch alle, von denen es abhängt) wird auch geladen und funktioniert wie erwartet.:eek:

Ich habe eine praktisch gleiche Firmware nocheinmal gebacken, nur dieses Mal nicht den Kernel ersetzt. Bei dieser Variante konnten natürlich keine nf_nat oder ipt_MASQUERADE-Module geladen werden.
Aber abgesehen davon fällt auf, dass der einzige Unterschied ist, dass der Original-Kern eben auch die drei Module isdn_fbox_fon5, avm_dect und dect_io laden kann, alle anderen funktionieren mit dem selbstgebauten auch schon. Wobei man hier sogar noch dazusagen muss, dass avm_dect und dect_io möglicherweise auch schon Funktionsfähig wären, sich aber nur nicht laden lassen, da sie isdn_fbox_fon5 vorraussetzen. Kann aber natürlich auch sein, dass sie anschließend, wenn das Isdn-Modul funktioniert, auch noch eine Behandlung brauchen:keule:

Ich lese zwar immer wieder in den anderen Beiträgen, dass das Freetz-Team seit 6.3x Schwierigkeiten mit unvollständigen/unpassenden Sourcen von AVM hat, bin aber trotzdem im Moment überglücklich, dass so vieles schon funktioniert:)

Ich nutze den Trunk und aktualisiere ihn häufig. Meine aktuelle Revision ist also 13839. Bei Interesse kann ich auch .configs von mir posten, obwohl die vermutlich nicht sehr spannend sind.

So ein "relocation overflow" ist meist das Resultat eines nicht richtig als solches erkannten "weak symbols", wo dann tatsächlich ein Sprung erzeugt werden soll, der aber die 256 MByte-Grenzen bei MIPS (einige MIPS-Instruktionen bieten nur 26 Bit für die Codierung der Zieladresse) überschreiten würde. Im physikalischen Speicher der 7490 kann das eigentlich kaum ein Problem werden, denn die hat ja gesamt nur 256 MByte, das müßte also auch ein "weak symbol" sein.

Solange das keine Stelle ist, wo wirklich mal die Ausführung "vorbeikommt", könnte man zumindest mal versuchen, in der arch/mips/kernel/module.c die Fehlerbehandlungen (in apply_r_mips_26_rel() und apply_r_mips_26_rela()) genauso abzuschalten (auszukommentieren), wie es in der arch/mips/kernel/vpe.c (in apply_r_mips_26()) erfolgt.

Sollte die Ausführung wider Erwarten da doch irgendwann mal vorbeikommen, stürzt dann das System aber vermutlich ab ("kernel panic" wg. SEGV würde ich erwarten) ... dann müßte man etwas genauer suchen, indem man z.B. die Fehlermeldungen in arch/mips/kernel/module.c (das sollte die Quelle der Meldung in dmesg sein) etwas ausdifferenziert und um die Angaben zum Offset (v) und zur "base address" (das müßte sich hinter "location" auf den ersten Blick verbergen, aber ich habe nicht weiter gesucht) erweitert.

Ach so, ich vergaß zu erwähnen, daß man natürlich diese Änderungen im Code auch auf die Fälle beschränken kann, wo me->name dann auf den Namen des betreffenden LKM zeigt (aber immer bedenken, daß das alles im Kernel läuft).

Ah ja ... die ist ja dann auch von einem Problem beim Laden der DECT-Treiber betroffen.

Wobei ich jedem nur dann zur Lösung von @opto raten würde (also dem Verwenden einer älteren Firmware als Basis), wenn er sich der damit einhergehenden Risiken auch in vollem Umfang bewußt ist.

für welche Funktionen ist denn "Replace Kernel" nun gut bzw. sogar erforderlich?

Bislang war meine Info, dass mit Replace-Kernel kein ISDN mehr funktioniert. Wie sich das von g00fy aber so anhoert, schein ja auch die DECT-Funktion zumindest mal beeintraechtigt zu sein.

Replace Kernel braucht man um mehr Module in die Firmware packen zu können. Ich denke einige von den "einfacheren" Modulen kann freetz durchaus auch für einen vorgefertigten Kernel bauen, aber sobald es um Funktionalität geht, die spezielle Hooks im Kernel-Code brauchen (wie etwa Connection-Tracking von netfilter/iptables), ist es notwendig, den Kernel selbst zu bauen, damit auch die notwendigen Symbole im Kernel hinzugefügt werden können.
Kann natürlich auch noch andere Gründe geben (zusätzliche Optimierungen usw., Linux-Kernel bietet ja viele Möglichkeiten;)), aber ich denke, das ist der wichtigste.

Danke für den Hinweis mit der Labor-Firmware! Ich habe jetzt schon ein bisschen überlegt, ob ich nicht gleich umstelle und die flashe. Hab mich fürs erste nur deshalb dagegen entschieden, weil ich nicht auf 6.2x zurückwollte (aber wer weiß, ob mich nicht schon bald doch die Motivation einer "perfekten" Firmware packt...;)) Ist aber auf jeden Fall gut zu wissen, dass ich diese Option habe (und nicht auf 6.0x zurück müsste)

Ich habe hier die 7272 / 6.87 / Kernel 2.6.32.61 an der seriellen console mit Replace Kernel am laufen (freetz-ng).
Das funktioniert soweit auch alles, bis auf dieses AVM Telefon Modul ("isdn_fbox_fon5.ko") welches sich nicht laden lässt und somit auch nicht die davon abhängigen Module.
Auch wenn sonst alles funktioniert, aber die Telefon Funktionalität wäre mir schon wichtig ...
Da es hier ja damals um die selbe Problematik mit dem selben Kernel nur auf der 7490 / 6.30 ging), habe ich dier Lösungsvorschläge von PeterPawn mal probiert und die entsprechenden Einträge in module.c auskommentiert.
Leider ohne Erfolg - die Box lädt das Modul dann natürlich und macht eine KERNEL PANIC :-(
Vielleicht hat ja jemand noch einen Rat ?
Kam damals denn irgend etwas positives dabei heraus, woran es auf der 7490 / 6.30 denn nun lag ?
Oder gilt es als nach wie vor ungelöst ?

Ich tippe einfach mal ins Blaue ... wenn dasselbe Problem bei einem AVM-Kernel nicht auftreten sollte, fehlt wohl irgendein Kernel-Patch für die 7272, der die Loader-Routinen (oder damit im Zusammenhang stehende Funktionen beim Laden von LKM, z.B. die Speicherzuweisung) entsprechend verändert. Denn das LKM kann es ja nicht selbst sein, da dieses 1:1 aus der AVM-Firmware in das Freetz-Image übernommen wird.

Da die 7272 und die 3272 die einzigen Modelle mit dem AR10 sind und nur bei der m.W. auch jenseits von 06.8x immer noch der 2.6.32.61-Kernel zum Einsatz kommt, würde mich zumindest ein fehlender Patch an dieser Stelle nicht wirklich überraschen - bei den anderen Modellen kam dann schnell eine andere Kernel-Version und damit kann der zumindest theoretisch auch einfach unter den Tisch gefallen sein.

Ich bin mittlerweile fast der Ansicht, daß der Prozess zum Zusammenstellen der OpenSource-Pakete bei AVM in der Vergangenheit gar nicht automatisiert war und das jeweils von Hand vollzogen wurde - auch da wäre ein verlorengegangener Patch denkbar.

Andererseits wurden/werden in Freetz i.d.R. gar nicht die aktuellen Firmware-Pakete von AVM genutzt, sondern ein "Basispaket" für die Prozessor-Version, das dann mit Patches auf die Unterschiede "hingebogen" wird (https://github.com/Freetz-NG/freetz...abe49/make/linux/patches/2.6.32.61/7272_06.87). Und ein paar dieser Patches wurden in Freetz-NG vor 19 Tagen (Stand 09.10.2020) angefaßt: https://github.com/Freetz-NG/freetz-ng/commit/c62a70e33b43a55cdaf8662ecd7d6c0948dabe49 - wobei die vordergründig nichts mit dem Loader zu tun haben.

Aber warum das geschah und ob das tatsächlich schon die am 17.06.2020 (http://osp.avm.de/fritzbox/fritzbox-7272/) von AVM "erneuerten" OpenSource-Pakete einschließt (das ist eine Krankheit bei AVM, daß da immer sämtliche Zeitstempel im Verzeichnis geändert werden, wenn neue Dateien hinzukommen oder welche ersetzt werden), kann man leider nicht erkennen ... das ist nun wieder eine "typische Freetz-NG-Krankheit", daß man da viel zu oft "raten" muß, was so ein Commit nun eigentlich bewirken sollte und man am Ende meist schneller ist, wenn man das selbst macht, als wenn man erst versucht, hinter die Geheimnisse von Freetz-NG zu steigen.

Man kann also - ohne das selbst auseinanderzunehmen - nicht erkennen, ob bei der 7272 mit 06.87 jetzt noch Korrekturen durch AVM (so es welche gab) berücksichtigt wurden oder nicht - und ohne ältere OpenSource-Pakete von AVM kann man auch die Kernel-Quellen früherer Versionen nicht mit dem letzten vergleichen.

Ich weiß nicht, ob Freetz/Freetz-NG hier beim Kernel 2.6.32.61 immer noch auf einen "Mix" aus VR9- und AR10-Quellen setzt ... da in Freetz ja auch noch alte Kernel-Versionen weiterhin unterstützt sind (eben auch für VR9, denn damit könnte man wohl auch noch ein Image für die 7490 mit 06.30 bauen - auch wenn mir jede Phantasie fehlt, was ein Freetz-Nutzer damit wollen könnte), würde ich - auch angesichts der Patches - fast wetten (aber ich habe es nicht genauer angesehen, es ist also nur Spekulation), daß die Basis für 7272 mit 06.87 am Ende irgendwelche uralten Kernel-Pakete von AVM sind, die für 06.30 oder früher veröffentlicht wurden und wo nun nur die Unterschiede zur 06.87 der 7272 per Patch-File nachträglich drübergebügelt werden. Daß dabei am Ende irgendein AVM-Patch unter die Räder kommt, erscheint mir sogar noch plausibler als die Annahme, daß man einen vergessen hat, als man bei AVM die Quellen zusammenstellte.

Bei Freetz blicke ich noch einigermaßen durch, wie es da mit den Quellen und den darauf anzuwendenden Patches organisiert ist: https://github.com/Freetz/freetz/bl...2_06.20/000-3490.06.20-7272.06.20-delta.patch - aber was da mittlerweile in Freetz-NG passiert, ist mir ein Rätsel und daß dort (trotz reklamierter Unterstützung für FRITZ!OS > 06.5x mit einem 2.6.32-Kernel, die in Freetz fehlt und das vielleicht aus gutem Grund) wohl immer noch das "init_avm_kernel_config" für den Kernel 2.6.32.61 komplett auskommentiert wird: https://github.com/Freetz-NG/freetz...es/2.6.32.61/170-init_avm_kernel_config.patch, obwohl dort ja auch die Modul-Tabelle enthalten müßte (auch wenn ich nicht weiß, ob AVM die bei der 06.87 der 7272 genauso nutzt, wie seit dem 3.10er-Kernel in den anderen Modellen), macht mich mehr als stutzig.

Der "alte Stand" in 06.20 war, daß dieser Aufruf in Freetz einfach auskommentiert wurde, womit der (eigene) Kernel dann aber trotzdem noch lief - erst ab 3.10.xx kam es dann zu den Problemen, die mit "avm_kernel_config" behoben wurden, auch wenn in Freetz/Freetz-NG mittlerweile eine Abwandlung davon in Benutzung ist.

Aber es erschiene mir auch logisch, daß AVM da die 2.6.32.61-Quellen im Nachgang noch geändert hat, nachdem alle anderen Modelle im Zusammenhang mit dem "AVM-Yield" (das die Ursache dafür ist, daß da Module in "speziellen" Kernel-Speicher geladen werden müssen, der nicht auslagerbar ist und wo somit in der "yield()"-Behandlung keine Paging-Exceptions auftreten können) auf die Modultabelle in der "avm_kernel_config" umgestellt wurden - zuvor wurde da nur entsprechender Platz über eine Environment-Variable reserviert und die Module dann dorthin geladen ... eine eher "ungenaue" Form der Zählung des erforderlichen Platzes.

Andererseits ist das Zeug nun mittlerweile wirklich sooo alt, daß sich die Beschäftigung damit kaum noch lohnt und man sich sehr gut überlegen muß, was man da noch an Zeit investiert. Läuft es mit einem AVM-Kernel weiterhin problemlos, sollte man wohl eher auf das "Replace kernel" verzichten, wenn man sich da nicht (selbst) einarbeiten will in die Zusammenhänge.

Da wird im Original Kernel irgendwelcher Modulspeicher gesetzt und eine AVM Kernel Config verwendet (wie Du ja bereits angedeutet hast). Beim selbst erstellten Kernel fehlen diese Aufrufe gänzlich :-(

Diese Meldungen sind (a) die Info, daß da der Config-Bereich existiert im AVM-Kernel und (b), daß sich darin auch die Modul-Liste befindet (und sonst offenbar nichts weiter). Damit würde ich das Problem tatsächlich am ehesten auch daran festmachen ... mit Kenntnis der zwei Zeilen im Protokoll des AVM-Kernel hätte ich mich schon vor bzw. in #8 "festgelegt".

Damit bleibt Dir die Aufgabe (oder @fda89), das auf das Auslesen des "avm_kernel_config"-Bereichs aus dem AVM-Kernel und das Erstellen/Linken eines eigenen Object-Files umzustellen - so viel Aufwand ist das gar nicht. Es hat bloß noch niemand gemacht, weil bei den anderen Modellen dann andere Kernel-Versionen kamen und "Replace kernel" eben doch eher exotisch ist für die meisten Freetz-Benutzer.
