You don't have the permission to access the .static file. This doesn't seem to be a Freetz issue. Fix your permissions.

You are right. Freetz can not be compiled as root. But there is no problem in "freetz compilator" because this is working for many many users except you. ;-)

Please use the supported Virtual Box Image Freetz Linux 1.3 if you are not able to fix this problem by yourself.

Look for howtos to change the keyboard layout on ubuntu systems. Or should someone google this shit for you?

You are not supposed to use the keyboard anyway, so the keyboard map should be no issue. The physical machine that I use for Freetz doesn't even have a keyboard attached.
Or you may try as a non-root user on your machine in an empty directory, with umask set to 022.
