Hi,

Since my German is terrible, I am writing in English. I'm sorry :)

i have searched the forum, but especially the technical German is very difficult for me.
Could someone please help me to connect a GSM Gateway to my Fritz box?

This is what I have:
-Analog phone line
-FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 Annex A
-Musitel 82 2sim GSM Gateway
- I think I have made the correct cable. Everything works fine (analog phone over FB, Internet over FB, VoIP over FB) and I have left one part of the cable. This is what seems the ISDN plug (pins 3-4-5-6 connected). However, I have no clue where it goes :)

This is what I need:
ALL incoming calls on my VoIP number should be forwarded to my cellphone.

Gateway seems to be working. If I connect the S0 to the TE connector of the Gateway, it responds with a green LED on BRI 1 and GSM1.

However, I have no clue how to connect everything, and where to tell the devices which number (my cellphone) to call.

Please advise!
Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Marcel

Hello Wurf

my knowlege of french is as your german

http://www.musitel.com/FRA/musitel_82_fr.html

I am not sure if the Musitel 82 will work on the SO extention line of the Fritz!Box 7170
Did you try to connect it to the incoming isdn PTT line of the box.
Trying this you will not have analog phone connection, but if it works you can build a special cable to use analog and isdn at the same time.

best regards

ok, maybe you can use this one, in English. My French is even worse than the German :) (That is, German I can understand a little. French not a word, haha)

If you connect the musitel 82 to the FritzBox you can use the original Y-Cable. Now you have to setup the musitel into the NT-mode. After that you have to setup the FritzBox with the MSN (e.g. the used mobile numbers). Now you can use the call forwarding function of the FritzBox via webinterface.

Hi Telefonmännchen,

The original Y cable was modified :-|
I separated the analog and the ISDN plugs. I have 2 now.

Main questions:
-Do I connect the Musitel to the S0 port of the FB? Or to one of the Y-cable plugs?
- I can't find where to program the outgoing cellphone number. I do see the MSN, but it is not editable (it shows the VoIP number, by the way).
please see the printscreen below.

You have to use the second plug of the Y-cable for the telephone line. The musitel emulates a second phone line for the FritzBox. It's a little bit tricky to use both lines (POTS and ISDN) at the same time. You have to switch to ISDN an to configurate the MSN. I dont know, which numbers are sended on the S0 by the musitel. These numbers you have to configurate (exactily the same way) as MSN in the ISDN menu. The manual of the musitel should show these information. The outgoing cellphone numbers you can select via the call forwarding menu.

Thanks...
I think...

I'm afraid this set-up is a little beyond my knowledge.
According to the Musitel helpdesk, the call forwarding number should come from somewhere outside the musitel. there is no way to configure it in the musitel.
Maybe an external PBX would help me out?

If I only had everything connected right, I might find out the settings. So first let's check my wiring.

I put a schematic of my cable and devices here:
fritzbox to gateway schematic

Could anyone please tell me:
-Should ANYTHING be connected to the So port of the FritzBox?
-In case the ?1 plug should go in the gateway, would that be NT1 or TE1?

The analog phone is working just fine without the Fritz box. No need to change that as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Wurf

see link of english page

First you should make a reset by using the rest button shown at page 8

Question do you have any installation software and the RS232 connector cable
Both will be needed for a setup of the device

look at page 15 of the PDF manual

Try to connect the TE1 to the isdn plug of the y-cable
( 3 to 1)

do not try to read my username the reverse way

best regards

Hi Resool,

yes, I have a working serial connection to the gateway. I connected a USB to serial convertor cable to the USB port of the FritzBox, and the other end to the gateway. Using the USB remote connection, it was recognised on my computer as new hardware :). I can configure the gatway from the network now. Works just fine.

Now I will try to find out how to configure the FritzBox and the gateway.
Maybe I can post step by step screenshots of the configuration. If I succeed, it may be useful to others. If I make mistakes, others can give the right directions.

The musitel is a ISDN device. So there must be a way to setup the used numbers (MSN) for the S0. Otherwise no other device can't "talk" to the musitel. The musitel simulate a network to the FritzBox (and the FritzBox is a normal ISDN device for the gateway). So you have to plugin the Y-cable to the NT-connector (2). You can connect it directly without your special cable to check the function first . If you connect the musitel in TE-mode to the FritzBox, you have to use the internal S0. But the routing of the calls is totaly different and not easyer to set up. In this case is the musitel a normal ISDN device like a phone. The first way is the better.

If a call comes in, the musitel sends in the NT mode the calling number (CLIP-information) and the called number to the S0. Only a device with correct MSN setup is able to show reaction to this call. That's the reason why you have to setup the used MSN (important!). They call this Operator in the english manual. Every Operator number represents a GSM line. You can use the phone numbers to identify a special line if you have pluged a second SIM-card into the musitel. The same numbers you have to setup in the FritzBox. Now should be the fritzBox be able to react to incomming phone calls via GSM.

Gruß Telefonmännchen

So, the best setup does NOT use the S0 port. Is that correct?
(By the way, the Musitel people told me that the operator 1 and operator 2 are forn incoming calls, but I really doubt that...)

You say that the fritzbox will react to incoming calls via GSM.
But...I want incoming VOIP calls to go out via GSM!

Yes, I know but working this way is a precondition to route incomming VoIP-calls via FritzBox/ISDN/Musitel to GSM. If you have no working connection this way, the FritzBox will be not able to take a call via GSM.

I meant the best way to route the calls is to use the musitel as a network simulator. In this case you can use the call forwarding rules of the FritzBox. If you connect the musitel as a ISDN device (simulates a ISDN phone) to the FritzBox (the PBX in this case), the routing is more complicated and the musitel has to do the job. With the first way you can also do normal GSM phone calls via a connected phone/FritzBox/Musitel/GSM only using a pre-dialed code (*111# for the first GSM connection and *112# for the second). Its just the better way.

Ok, it seems to work partially!

If I call the gateway GSM number, the call is forwarded to my GSM by the FritzBox. It is the VoIP caller id that is visible on my GSM.
This is a nice progress after days of fiddling with cables :).
That is with a cable connecting the S0 port with the TE1 on the musitel, and the musitel in TE mode.

Now I have to configure everything to work the other way around too.

ADDITION:
I just found out it is NOT the Musitel that does the forwarding... :-\
The number entered in the OPERATOR 1 field is the number dialed out. (And there is where I put my GSM number, thinking it would be the number dialed out when a call would come in from the Fritzbox.)

ADDITION 2:
When conecting the same cable to the NT1 on the Musitel (in NT mode), the GSM1 led of the gateway becomes green for 5 seconds, and then I get the voicemail of the Gateway GSM number. It seems the call is rejected right away.

Hi all,

Could anybody help me out to get things working? I think connections are all right now.

-I have the ISDN plug of the Y cable in the Gateway. It is in the NT1
-Gateway is in NT-mode
-Fritz box is configured so that it thinks it is connected to an ISDN network
-Fritz box is setup to divert the VoIP number to my GSM number, using the fixed line (which should be over ISDN, plugged in the gateway, right?)

Now, if I call the VoIP number, the call IS diverted to my GSM, but it does that using the VoIP line, even though I told the Fritz box to do that via fixed line.

Gateway is not responding in any way.
It does when connected to the S0 of the FB, but I know that is not the way it should be done. However, it shows that teh gateway is OK and working.

What am I missing?

Can you use the GSM connection if you use a to the FritzBox connected phone? You can do so by predialing *111#. Can you dial via GSM e.g. your mobile number? If not - the call forwarding can't work.

Rings your connected phone, if you dial your GSM number of your SIM card in your musitel? If not, your musitel can't deal with your FritzBox. The reason could be a problem with the calble connection or with the MSN setup. A correct MSN setup is a precondition to get a working ISDN connection.

Since I don't have an ISDN phone, I can't check that.

Regarding the MSN setup, what number do I put in the MSN setup in the FB?
I have the voip number, my mobile GSM number, the outgoing gateway gsm number, and the fixed line number (which is actually nowhere in this setup I think).
What do I put where?
Also, the FB wo't let me redirect to any number with * or # in it. It canb only be digits it says...

The number in the FritzBox has to be the same as the transmitted number by the musitel. Everywhere in the musitel menu has to be a field, where you can setup this number. This number and the number in the FritzBox ISDN configuration has to be exact the same (same format an length). Only with this configurated number, the FritzBox is able to react to incomming calls. You can use your mobile number (not the target number, I mean the number of the SIM card in the musitel) or a part of it. It doesn't matter. The main thing is, it has to be the same number. I don't think, the musitel is able to read the origin number of the GSM to transmit it to the S0 if a call comes in. If I'm wrong and the musitel can do so, you have to put this number to the ISDN configuration menu in the FritzBox.

It's correct, if the FritzBox says, there has to be only digits in the redirection menue. The predialed number (*111#) is only to check the connection an the possibility of outgoing calls. You have to dial it with a connected phone for this check only.

I bought a second hand ISDN phone to do some testing.

Works just fine on the S0 port.

I tried to receive an incoming call on the gateway on that phone. Since the gateway doesn't supply power to the phone, it is not possible to do this without power supply or my fritzbox.

Now if I call the gsm number of the gateway,
- the GSM LED lights up
- the BRI 1 LED lights up for about 5 seconds (trying to find the phone that should ring?)
- the BRI 1 LED goes out.

In the FB, I configured the ISDN phone as device number 51.
In the gateway, I configured 'operator 1' to be routed to 51. (page 40 in the gateway manual)

But when calling the gateway (on it's gsm number), the phone is not ringing.

Of course I'm doing something wrong, but maybe someone can point me out what.

Thanks again!

Marcel

What happens if you connect the ISDN phone direct to the GSM gateway?

If you configured the 51 in the gateway, the FritzBox is not able to route the incomming call. The 51 is only for internal use. Internal means behind the FritzBox on the internal S0. You can't use this number in the gateway.

Try to figure out what number is submitted by the gateway if a call comes in (the called not the calling number/CLIP). This is the number you have to setup in the FritzBox. Its everytime the same reason. A ISDN device has to know his own number to work. You have to set this in the menu.

And by the way. Its your device, you have to read the manual. Its a problem of the configuration of the GSM gateway. The FritzBox ist not the problem. You have to setup the outgoing number on the S0.
