Hello all and pardon my English,

I updated my fritz box fon (non-wifi Annex A) from version 06.04.02 (english) to 06.04.17 english (similar to german 06.04.15, if I understand correctly).

With the 06.04.02 firmware downstream attenuation: approximately 32dB.

With the 06.04.17 firmware downstream attenuation: more than 60dB (indication of a very strong attenuation)!!

Anyone knows why this might be happening?

This happens also to other fritz box fon (annex A) users, so I am trying to figure out what goes wrong. I've also created a ticket on the AVM helpdesk, but someone here might provide info on whether this is a known issue...

Don't mind about the different attenuation values at different firmware releases - and, at all, do not believe these values! Fritz!boxes are not able to measure the line attenuations. The attenuation values are extrapolated from other values (like error rates or similar) and may differ in big dimensions. (I for myself had different Fritz!boxes (with different FW's, too) connected to my DSL line, and the Fritz!boxes showed downstream attenuations between 32 and 64 dB!)

Hendrik

Phew, thanks RealHendrik I feel much more relieved.

I know 3 persons, all of them with fbf annex a, and after the update they all went to an attenuation of >60dB (from 30-35)!

Hope AVM fixes this. Attenuation rates of 60dB are in reality veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery low. Perhaps the improved ADSL driver in the new firmware is not that improved?

For the record, comparing measurements between the old and the firmware are all the same, except:
- the attenuation
- in the old firmware, right before the update, the DSLAM was detected as "Globespan 0.8H1", whereas now the value is "Globespan 0.0H1"
- trellis coding was 32 bits, now it is 30 bits

I'm just listing the above changes, to note that no other measurements are different (except the trellis coding ones), so since attenuation is implicitly calculated, I expected it would be more or less the same with the previous firmware.

In any case I feel much more relaxed now. Thanks for the information mate :)
