sorry for my delay, i use fw 39.04.47, on a fritz 7140 (not 7141 ).
Every time i start the update the info led doesn't start to flash, and the webpage remain static. I've tried with ds-mod firmware update too, but same result....all freezed
Usb drive become unmounted but nothing more:noidea:. With some trunk (1777, if my memory doesn't fault) the fritz will restart after a few seconds after give "upgrade", without upgrading
If this problem is not only mine, which test may i do to be helpfull?

This happenes to me too, same 7140 with 39.04.47, but i made some debugging and here is what i found:
I always do firmware updates with the Freetz upgrade method (not avm-fritz update page), and at the same time i keep ssh open and do some "ps" commands to see progress (my curiosity).

If i keep everything mounted and running (swap, usb storage, various packages as they are), i see that the fw update prepare procedure keep doing pidof various fritz packages (voipd, printsrv, and many others which are not even in my fritz), then sleep 1 or 300 secs, then repeat loop of pidof, then sleep, and keeps doing this forever (well, i waited 7-10 minutes first time, then later max 2-3 mins)..... i tried to stop some services manually before starting update, but things don't get better.

My solution was (already used 3-4 times yesterday night) with "reboot -f" to stop this update process (risking to reboot while reboot, but i check few time to see that fwprepare was only doing pidof and no checksum ot any other real fw update), then start fritz without usb storage, then update. takes much less time with those checks but then does the update things.

this morning i tried also with pseudo update (not to stop avm services) and it worked immediately, and firmware got loaded and working...

one problem could be that recently i see many zombie processes, all apps that get stopped remain zombie (openvpn, checkmaild, and others) just stays there forever, any solution to remove those zombies?

I read something nearly similar more than one time before somewhere here. I think, the problem could be the attached USB-devices.

@ramik: Could you please try the update once again with your usb-devs detached?

We had a similar problem in the past. Some kernel modules caused an Ooops on loading. Perhaps you can have a look at dmesg output. Die you choose "replace kernel"? Or did you replace some modules?

I didn't choose to replace kernel, i have the the freetz loaded with the packages and options as in my signature, which adds quite few modules to kernel loader.

note about highlighted lines:

1. This is normal. Because the squashfs doesn't start on an erase block boundary.
2. Perhaps this is a bug in mini_fo code. I never saw a real version there.

A mounted usb-device could stop your flash procedure. Try to unmount all partitions, remove all modules like scsi or usb and kill zombie usb processes.
Or simply boot without usb devices.
That works for me

I have been using the 04.47 firmware with freetz since early versions, and it never freezed during update, and iirc till last week it never freezed too, can't specify till which revision.

tonight i will try another time to see what happens...

Hi all, i've just tested with trunk 1860, and at the fouth try it has been updated
But.....not all packages are listed:noidea:
I've putted in:
samba, openvpn, dropbear, inadyn, vsftpd, virtualip, usbip, and wget
this is what i see:
Dropbear, Inadyn, OpenVPN, Virtual IP, Vsftpd, and nothing more

The update is gone (at the 4th) using ds-mod interface, and selecting: Do not stop AVM services.
Other ways have not had success

@Tokka, you ,managed to flash a new image. Fine.

The packages you don't see are the ones that do not have (or nedd to have) a webinterface at the moment. I think UsbIP hasn't one yet, te Samba replaces only the embedded from AVM, and wget is a simple commandline tool which you can call out of a telnet or a ssh-session. Maybe even from a rudishell or nanoshell.

Hi Silent-Tears, i have flashed the fw with usb attached.
I've also tried to adjust samba, but the only file i have found is smbd (in /sbin folder), but it's not editable, and the fw 04.47 for 7140 has not internal samba
It's possible to replace samba 3 with 2? (ok, it's more simple if i try by myself )

acutally there's a discussion in this thread about the samba. Later in this thread there is a resolution für using the 2.x-samba with the dsmod-webinterface in actual freetz. But if you have some linux-abilities, you should get it work by your own.

Flashing issues: Imho the only working solution at this time is to unplug and flash without usb. plugging back usb after flashing an rebooting should be no problem.

Tested trunk 1862, but also removing usb (store and hub) the only working way is from ds-mod page, without stopping avm services :lamer:
I've tried to don't use automount for ntfs and ext3 too, but same result...

I didn't make any new firmware build or updates, but thinking well about updates that i made before, i remember that the update script tried to unmount the usb drive and stop other services, the unmount was usually unsuccessful but after few seconds the update process starts. seems it's some services that get stuck there.

on next update i will check more in this.

Do you have swap activated on your box?
Because, when I have swap actived on my box and I make an update with stopping all avm-services, the usb-stores are going to be umounted and then the box restarts.
I think this happens, because swap is still actived, but the stick is umounted, so the swapfile doesn't exist anymore.

in my case, one of the first things i did is to stop the swap.
