Fritz 7270 as pptp client (openvpn)

I would like to use my Fritz 7270 as pptp vnp client(certificate authentification). I understand that OpenVPN can be installed but its not really clear to me if it can be installed without Freetz. Also if Freetz is the best way does it replace the AVM firmware or is it an addition?

I thought that OpenVPN could be used as VPN client as well, but this seems to be a better option. I assume I must install Freetz to make it work?
