fritz!box 7270 v2 German to English (international) firmware

I have purchased Fritz!box fon wlan from e-bay from Germany and using contributions on this forum have sucessfully converted it from german to international version.

Prepare
The best way to first put all the files which you shall use on your desktop, then connect your fritz!box directly to your computer with ethernet cable (use LAN1 on the fritz!box)

1. first restore it to the original state with restoration utility on your CD-DVD which came with the device (mine was called
FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270.04.67.recover-image.exe)

2. trough the web interface firmware update page upload fritz_as_avm_newer.tar (this will unbrand the box)
3. then without rebooting you can upload the fritz_as_avme_newer.tar (this will change environment varible that the box is international version avme a.k.a. avm english)
4. at this time the web interface becomes unavailable as some symbolic links to web files on the box are not changed
5. then restore the box with FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270_16.AnnexB.en-de-es-it-fr.04.76.recover-image.exe
6. then load the new firmware for international box FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7270_16.AnnexB.en-de-es-it-fr.54.04.81.image
7. after reboo chose your language, your country, DSL annex etc.

Welcome to this forum.

I got some remarks, first and most important:
There are different hardware versions of 7270. Your description will work with only one of these.
7270 v3 needs different firmware version, starting with 74 (i.e. 74.04.80). For a v3 step 1, 5 and 6 won't work.
The first version of 7270 works with firmware versions like 54.04.67, but has only 8MB flash instead of 16MB. The international firmware needs a box with 16MB flash (as you can see in the name of the firmware file: "7270_16"). Step 5 and 6 won't work for 8MB flash boxes.
You can check in the support file, if your box has 8 or 16MB: http://fritz.box/html/support.html
Don't try this manual for a 8MB 7270 or for a 7270 v3!

Further remarks:
ad 1: You can download recover files from the ftp-Server at AVM, no need to use old versions from CDs/DVDs: ftp://ftp.avm.de/fritz.box/fritzbox.fon_wlan_7270/x_misc/deutsch/
ad 2: This file changes the same variable like the file in step 3, so this step is redundant. I would just skip it.

then, where I can find the steps to convert a FB 7270 V3 German edition to a International edition?

Because I have bought a Fritz!box yesterday in Germany but my German knowledges are not very good and I prefer to use English.

@ papaloukas: Welcome to the forum!

There is no way to change language in v3 - but it can at least easily be configured to run in Annex A (analogue).

If your main aim was English you'd better bought a v2 - that one can -with some modification- run the international 5-language FW according to the procedure described in #1. Unfortunately "arsatk" did not mention that his tutorial will ONLY WORK on 7270 v2!

But neither v1 (because 8 mb flash memory is too small for the international fw) nor v3 (because hardware is different to v2) can run multilanguage international fw which can only be uploaded to v2.

Thank you imagomundi. But I have just gone to buy the 7270 in Media Markt and I couldn't know if it's V2 or V3. Moreover, I had read in some forums that you can replace the firmware to an International version (without to determine the version). Problem is some people don't worry about diferent version or nor update the tutorials

So, if there is no official AVM firmware in English for 7270 V3, would be possible to install a Freetz (with several languages) just from a 7270 V3 original?

Are you sure it's v3? This is easy to know because it is printed on the bottom of the box. If there is no version printed it is most probably a v2 - could also be a v1 but is not likely as AVM finished production of v1 early in 2009.

If it is a v3 I would try to "insert" mutlilanguage from FW 54.04.81 to the v3-fw (74.04.80) with "speed-to-fritz" (sp2fr) which is also based on FREETZ but easier to handle if you need only ONE standard feature from another fw.

During sp2fr procedure you should choose 7270 v3-fw 74.04.80 as "first firmware" and "7270-fw 54.04.81 as "second". Then choose "multilanguage" and "multi-annex" - no need to choose any other feature in sp2fr.

Unfortunately there are many "experts" in many forums who are not aware of their deficits - I always found the true ones in this forum - even so you can find tutorials with lack of some important information - in this thread MARSUPILAMI had already hinted to this.

Yes, I'm sure that it's a V3 because the Produktinformationen says: FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7270 v3 and the tag below the case it says the same. I think I can wait some months to the International release of the FB 7270 V3 from AVM. If not, always I can try your idea: mix firmwares with speed-2-fritz tool. Danke!

restored .04.57 ( lower version on my pc and tried with many up to 76)

upload the file for unbranding mine is AVM not 1&1
each file gave error
start the recovery -16annexb ....76
power off the box
power on waiting for recovery

error message ...incompatible firmware

With "ruKernelTool" you will be able to achieve your target! There are other ways, too - and they are all described in this forum - one of them even in English (in brief: change "firmware_version" with ftp from "avm" to "avme" and run English Recover firmware immediately without closing ftp and without disconnecting box from power even if recover procedure aks to do so)
