hotplug II / mdev discussion and implementation

starting/stopping services and programs

In the current implementation one can automatically start and stop specified service and programs.

The attachment contains a working example for ftpd.

Configuration is relatively easy...
  • unpack attachment in freetz project directory
  • make mdev-dirclean; make
  • flash box
  • attach memory key
  • log onto box
  • change to key directory
  • mkdir -p .freetz/service
  • change to directory
  • ln -s /lib/mdev/session/ftpd S01ftpd
  • ln -s /lib/mdev/session/ftpd K99ftpd
  • eject key using avm web interface
  • reattach key and the ftp server should be automatically started

This example works only if the avm ftp server hasn't been removed from the image and is 'enabled' in the avm web interface;) This example will stop the ftpd server only when it has been disabled in the avm web interface when the key has been ejected.

P.S. In this example, the prefix 'S01'/'K99' say start early and stop late.

Code:
/var/media/ftp/uStora # cd .freetz
/var/media/ftp/uStora/.freetz # cd service
/var/media/ftp/uStora/.freetz/service # ln -s /lib/mdev/session/ftpd S01ftpd
ln: S01ftpd: Operation not permitted

Code:
/var/media/ftp/uStora/.freetz/service # ln -s /lib/mdev/session/ftpd S01ftpd
ln: S01ftpd: Operation not permitted

Weird...

on the box
Code:
ls -l /lib/mdev/session/ftpd /var/media/uStora/.freetz/service

in freetz project directory
Code:
ls -l make/mdev/files/root/lib/mdev/session/ftpd
file make/mdev/files/root/lib/mdev/session/ftpd

Habe keine Ahnung was ich hier falsch mache.

Code:
/var/mod/root # ls -l /lib/mdev/session/ftpd /var/media/uStora/.freetz/service
ls: /var/media/uStora/.freetz/service: No such file or directory

I'm not yet sure either?
Please post the second part: the stuff in the freetz project directory.

And post 'cat /dev/debug', please.

Is what I wanted to see...

I'm not sure if line with 'unknown partition table' is doing it to you. Using avm wi, disconnect the stick and any other evtl usb devices... Reconnect the stick directly with the box and try again.

HAba das ganze mit einem neuen Stick getestet , ohne Erfolg :-(

Ohh man.... I had completely forgotten, you can't make links on vfat filesystems. Simply copy the /lib/mdev/session/ftpd to S01fptd/K99ftpd to that .freetz/service directory. The rest should work as described.

johnbock, do you think it's safe to test that hotplug replacement on the 7170? already?

Now I've tested the session script myself by copying the script to the directory <key root>/.freetz/service with the names stated. Here's my syslog after a connect/disconnect cycle
