Kernel Panic, AR7 WDT, RAM, FritzBox Fon Classic, neustarts

Sorry for the English language. I can read German, but my writing is not very good.
You may also answer in German, I will do my best to read it.

We used a FritzBox Fon 5124 to as dsl & router & internet telephony.

That worked good. This year it started acting up (rebooting when calling). That was caused by bad capacitors. (reload reason: telefon)

So while the FritzBox Fon 5124 was in repair (ordering & soldering new caps) I had a need for the backup FritzBox.
A few years earlier I had aquired a “New” “Old” “Stock” FritzBox Fon.

It’s model: 2000-1673 with firmware 06.04.49 - Annex A - EN - AVM

Upon unpacking the FritzBox Fon I installed the latest firmware from AVM, which is version 06.04.49

The “new” “old” FritzBox Fon seemed to work just as well, with almost the same functionality. (a 5 port gigabitswitch was added, to compensate the fact there is only one Ethernet port. There are 4 Ethernet ports on the FritzBox 5124).

At least I tought the new old stock FritzBox Fon worked Ok.

The next day it has rebooted itself. (Log empty/DSL reconnected)

That went on and on. Every one to two days it reboots (neustart)

It usually happens when there is no traffic. But it seems random. I don’t use torrents or filesharing. In fact the FritzBox Fon seems rock solid when it is loaded with traffic.


I did not find any cause. Tried the firmware recovery to with firmware 06.04.49

The firmware recovery went Ok. I re-entered the dsl and sip account.
But the problem returned.


So I opened up the FritzBox, soldered the serial header.
With MAXIM serial converter chip and serial cable…

- I connected the FritzBox with the serial console to my PC. And left my PC running overnight hoping it would catch the reboot. (It also rebooted during the day)

And it did catch the reboots!

Can you help me identify the problem or give me a clue?

I do not use it, but it is "default" on.
