Fritz!box + SIP phone, without problems?

Hi,

I already have a Fritz!box 7170 in use, which is a great device. However, I would like to add a Grandstream GXP-2020 now to my setup, and I was wondering if it would give any problems having 2 seperate SIP devices on the same network?

I suppose the 5060 port needs to be changed to for instance 5061 on the grandstream, and maybe I should use a STUN server...

But still... is anyone succesfully using such a setup? Does the 2nd device sometimes doesn't ring or losing connection with the SIP server?

PS. When I want to use a different SIP port than 5060... is it enough to set another port in the grandstream? Does this information go to the SIP server when registering?

I do not use an FBF but an SPA 2102; however, the principle is the same. Two issues are relevant:

1. If you use more than one sip device, you have to assign to each device different ports for (i) registration (e.g. 5060/5061) and (ii) voice rtp (e.g. 9000-9003/1004-1007 or whatever your want).

2. Since the GXP would be operated behind a NAT, (i) a fixed IP address should be assigned to the GXP and (ii) the ports relating to the GXP should be forwarded to such IP address. Alternatively, you might use STUN but whether this works and how reliably it works may depend on the provider and - at least to my experience - is subject ot try and error.

OK, so I will forward the necessary ports in the router to the GXP, and it should work fine.

Let's say I use 5061 for the GXP. How does the SIP provider know it should use this port instead of 5060? Does the SIP phone send this port (that I entered in its settings) to the SIP server when it is registering? Or do I need to tell the SIP provider that I want to use this port instead?

Indeed, the port is sent to the provider together with the IP address. Just try.

I wish I could, but I don't have an IP phone yet. I first wanted to be sure that it can work in the same setup as my Fritz!box.

An additional question...

Let's say the Fritz!box has 10 SIP providers registered. Does this mean that it is already using port 5060 to 5070 for them? So I should start with 5071 on the Grandstream?
