[Problem] Fritz Box WLAN with Kabel Internet connection!!

Sorry to ask the question in English but my German is not so good.

I have changed the internet provoder to Kabel Deutschland and have only received a Arris modem with LAN cable connection, I have a FRITZ!Box SL WLAN, Firmware-Version 09.04.34 at home and want to use this as a WLAN for all my devices but I am unsuccessful.


I am trying to connect my Fritz box SL WLAN with my Arris cable modem to use it
for WLAN. The problem is that I am only able to connect 1 laptop or device with
WLAN to my cable internet connection (Kable Deutschland) I have tried to go into the Fritz Box menu and deactivate the DHCP but still I am only able to connect 1 device at a time via WLAN. I believe only 1 IP address is being produced at 1 time. Can you please advise me how to use my Fritz box only as a WLAN using the Arris box as Internet modem. The method of connection from Arris modem to Fritz box is via LAN cable into the red LAN connection at the back of the Fritz box. The internet is working fine but only for 1 device at a time. I need to also connect other laptop and mobile devices via the WLAN Fritz Box at the same time.

The FRITZ!Box SL WLAN does not work on a LAN-connection; this is only possible with the 7170 and later boxes.
So you may consider buying a 7170. Here your plan will work with the LAN kable from the KD attached to LAN1.

Thanks loeben, But it is working with the Fritz box only problem is that i can use only 1 device at a time and when I want to change to another computer or device I have to shut down the Fritz box and restart with a new device. I just want to make the box able to use all my devices on the internet at the same time. Must be some possibility in the settings of the box?

What I'm to say? With this EOS-device only WLAN would serve multiple devices, as the box has only a single LAN connection. Being unable to connect to DSL - as KD does provide only a ethernet connection - you are left with two options: either buy from the used market a for your requirements suitable device like a 7170 (should be less than 40 ¤) or acquire a hub.

Hello stuff4sam

It could be a configuration issue.

Make shre that you have installed the latest firmware available from avm.

If you then open the box configuration page via webbrowser you have to go to System > view and activate the expert mode there.

Now either you should be able to configure under the Internet section: Internet access thru LAN A.

If this option wouldn't be there you would have to cheat a bit (Some boxes have officialy never been foreseen to be used behind an existing router, therfore in some boxes this entry is not available for configuration, but the functionality would be available).

I hope you will be able to follow the "How to" since it is in german language.

It could also be helpful to reset the box once to factory default.

You also have to check the WLAN settings to ensure that you allowed new WLAN devices to be connected.

Once you configured LAN A connection to be the port for the internet connection with the router you will only be able to access the configuration page of the fritzbox via USB or WLAN.

Thanks a lot Urs! I activated the LAN A the video was very helpful!!

Now the internet is working on all my devices at the same time, I am happy that it is now working well with the cable modem.

I just have 1 problem the speed achieved now using this method is very slow it is 2 MBPS instead of 30 - 32 MBPS, also when I do a speed check I am getting upload speed as O zero.

I am happy that it is working now but not so happy about the speed.
