Trafic-shaping - eDonkey

Sorry for writing in English, I can read german so you are welcome to answer in German language.

I have Fritz WLAN 7050, unfortunately I am not able to use it as a primary router, so it is connected after a Speedtouch-router. But there are now computer or network-equipment connected to my ADSL-line before Fritz, everything is connected "after" fritz.

When I run eDonkey for downloading files, it often "kill" my internetconnection. Speedmeasure show often less than 100kbit/s (on a 6mbit/s ADSL-connection) and phone-quality is owfull.

I have tried to tune the shaper (with telnet and FBEditor) according to information posted in this board, but only effect that have given so far, but whatever I do with the shaper I loose my connection totally, is not even able to ping. So each time result that I have to restore the inital configuration.

Can anyone help with more information on how I can reduce eDonkeys-priority to prevent bad impact on phonecalls?

du könntest gegebenfals nach dem speedtouch-router weiterhin als Verteiler benutzen, allerdings deine Rechner über LAN-B an die Fritzbox anschließen.

Von Speedtouch ein Kabel zu LAN-A der FBox.

wenn du jetzt unten das traffic shaping noch an hast, könnte es eigentlich funktionieren.

Do you got the newest firmware?

This one has a small bug in the TrafficShaper.
This is known and will be fixed in the next firmware.

For a workaround:
You need to enter you Connection Speed manually.
In german Version you find the page:
http://fritz.box -> Einstellungen -> Internet-> Zugangsdaten -> Traffic Shaping benötigt Angaben zur Geschwindigkeit ihres DSL-Anschlusses: -> Geschwindigkeiten des DSL-Anschlusses manuell angeben.

I do not know the speed of you internet connection,
so I can not tell you the values.

Traffic Shaping is only part of the story. As you can read here: http://wiki.ip-phone-forum.de/infrastruktur:filesharing:start
the other problem is the number of connections opened in a very short time. This creates quite a significant load on the poor router, clogging it with unproductive activities. Furthermore, NAT tables may overflow, leading to short or noticable periods of the 7050 freezing up or at least not allowing to establish new outbound connections.

Reduce the number of connections in eMule per download and in total. Reduce the number of clients per download. Don't specify the full available bandwidth numbers in eMule, but subtract some for other types of traffic (e.g., on a 2000/128 ADSL line you could specify 1200/64)...

This in combination with traffic shaping should help.
