[Frage] Wie Freetz-Programme starten? (Tags: enable external processing, *.external Datei)

Still I think you can save yourself time by using the less fat lighttp (what's in a name?) or even lighter hiawatha. lighttp works out-of-the-box. To use hiawatha you need to apply the supplied patch (patch -p0 <...), because it is not in trunk yet. I can remember that my first reaction was also to use Apache, but your box is not really suitable for a full blown web-server and lighttpd is almost as feature rich. Do you need specific Apache functions?

To save you more time: you will need some swap space if you want to run PHP (binary: ~5MB, memory usage: ~11MB for one instance ...).

Off topic: could someone please move the wiki page of hiawatha to the correct place? (no idea how it got where it is now).

Hi M66B,

thank you for your response! OK, I will switch to Hiawatha because it supports also PHP and Apache is not working for me (see above).

How do I install hiawatha? Shall I download the sources from the hiawatha homepage and compile it against which kernel because it is still not in the Freetz main trunk?

Where do I start to define 11 MB swap space in RAM on the the FB? Do I do it in the Freetz GUI?

Thank you!

Maybe it is easier for you to start with lighttpd, because it is in the current trunk version (just select it from make menuconfig; don't forget to select PHP too).

For hiawatha you can do this:
  • Download hiawatha_7_4_1_subop_250411.patch (from ticket)
  • Download hiawatha-webif-only-3.patch
  • In your Freetz folder: patch -p0 <hiawatha_7_4_1_subop_250411.patch
  • In your Freetz folder: patch -p0 <hiawatha-webif-only-3.patch
  • Edit make/Config.in to add hiawatha (you will see how)
  • Edit make/external.in to add hiawatha
  • make menuconfig to select hiawatha
Know that there is not much experience with hiawatha on Freetz yet, but I will try to help you were I can.

You can create a SWAP file here. Start with a SWAP file that has the size of your memory: 32MB.
