Greetings,

I bought 1und1 branded 7050 with 14.4.33 firmware and annex A settings. I wanted to convert it to English and did procedure with Adam2 bootloader and switched it to 14.4.26 annex A without problems.

Than, while in web interface when I clicked on WLAN the BOX stopped responding and I was forced to unplug power cord from it. From that moment problems started to happen:

1) First I noticed that WLAN is now green at overview page and that I can enter it settings without being stuck, but also I noticed that router is not visible to any wifi card [I tried with 3 computers]. Than I opened BOX, took out card and connected it to desktop PC [WinXP] via miniPCI adapter. After finding corespondent driver, card was showing as working properly except it couldn't be found on other computers - same as with BOX. So I concluded that card is partly defected, but still operational in means that my BOX can now work as 5050.

2) Other strange thing I noticed is that BOX is acting very strange when trying to do recovery. In recovery process when I disconnect power cord and connect it back, Windows LAN adapter starts to do reconnections very fast [network cable unplugged - network established] and there it began to do fail recovery. After several times trying to do the same it did recovery.

3) Now, even more strange thing happened. As my BOX was connected to internet as broadband router [via LAN A port] with settings of DHCP server on 192.168.11.1, it remembered settings from old firmware - in web interface all settings ware reset but BOX register it self on DHCP and I was able to browse internet without any settings made.

4) So, now as I saw that this is huge problem I wanted to get it back to its original state. So I converted OEM to avm and switched it to 14.4.15 German recovery firmware - all same with strange settings. I tried to upgrade it to 14.4.33 but it gave me an error of:

"Das Firmware-Update ist fehlgeschlagen:

Die angegebene Datei enthält keine für Ihr Gerät gültige Firmware."

So I did try to do 14.4.31 recovery - same after doing fast reconnection several times of pluging the power cord in and out it managed to start recovery process, but now I got error of 1460 on 2nd partition.

I also noticed settings in telnet CONFIG_ANNEX=B and ANNEX A. So I did try to change it to Annex B, but it didnt work, so I did this command:

echo kernel_args "" > /proc/avalanche/env

which didn't make any change.

Any ideas how to upgrade it to 14.4.33?

by the way - in my house I own both lines PTSN and ISDN, but as I don't have xDSL connection, Annex setting is not important to me.

Welcome ;-)

Is the Box now running on FW 14.04.15 or not?

... 7050 with 14.4.33 firmware and annex A settings. I wanted to convert it to English and did procedure with Adam2 bootloader and switched it to 14.4.26 annex A without problems.
Usually, it's no good idea changing settings across the magic 04.30 line.
All FW versions less than 04.30 use kernel 2.4, starting with version 04.30 all firmwares use linux kernel 2.6.
The older boxes did also switch the flash memory layout during this change and therefore got a new bootloader (mtd2).

So, if your box is of version 04.33 you usually can/should not try to tell it, it was version 04.26...

You will have to find out which bootloader version your box has to find the proper recovery program.

In order to do so, you might try skyteddy's ruKernelTool or log in via ftp (e.g. after a failed recovery, user and pw are "adam2") and perform a
Code:
quote GETENV bootloaderVersion
quote GETENV urlader-version
quote GETENV firmware_version
quote GETENV firmware_info
the last two are "optional".

@Feuer-Fritz
Yes the box is running but acting strangely.

@MaxMuster
Thing is I already changed bootloader mtd2.bin in order to downgrade original 14.4.33 German to 14.4.26 English. So bootloader is now different.

I wondered to revert process and to extract mdt2.bin from 14.4.33 and place it in dev/mdtblock3 and after that to boot it in adam2 mode and do 14.4.31 recovery, but I am unsure is the process same as in downgrading situation because partitions of 2.6 kernel are different.

Update: the guide I used to downgrade German and install English firmware is this one: http://tinyurl.com/3ab2d2v

O.k, then you should get a recover fitting your Box and of course get the environment settings right.

The german recover would be the 04.15, the english 04.26. As you noted, you must have the settings right to let the box accept the recover. This is:
- HWRevision
- annex
- ProductID
- firmware_version

If you changed everything back again, you should also be able to upgrade to 04.33 again (this upgrade will change the bootloader again).

Jörg

Hi,

I too am facing problems with 7050 downgrading after following the process described in http://tinyurl.com/3ab2d2v
I was having 14.04.31 German Annex B firmware which I wanted to downgrade and convert to English Annex A. Everything went well with tftp and replacing the mtdblock3 with mtd2.bin After reboot I could do an ftp and change the environment variables using adam2 and reboot. The environment variables changed are
quote SETENV annex, A
quote SETENV HWRevision, 77
quote SETENV ProductID, Fritz_Box_7050_AnnexA
quote SETENV firmware_version, avme
quote REBOOT

Here I started having problems. The recovery program would not detect the fritzbox although it is connected. I can start adam2 ftp again. I tried with various recovery programs 04.15/04.26/04.26 annex B. All LEDs on the box are blinking after reboot/power cycle. Could someone help with more ideas to make it work again? Thanks very much.

The ruKernelTool does not work for the old kernel, i.e. firmware versions before xx.04.26.
Exactly which recovery program and which operating system did you use? Try Windows XP first, as it is the most promising.

@informerex Yes, I tried ruKernelTool also with both xx.04.33 and xx.04.50. It failed to detect the adam2 ftp. With xx.04.26 it does not work. I used Windoze and Linux. In both cases I can connect using ftp. That means adam2 with new mtd2.bin may be working. But the recovery program and ruKernelTool under XP can not detect it. Should I probably set any other environment variables right, other than the ones in my earlier post above. Probably the urlader_version?

I will try with the beta version of ruKernelTool again.

@ KunterBunter. I tried it with XP after turning off my forewall and antivirus. I am able to ftp connect using adam2. So it should be OK. The recovery programs used are xx.04.26, xx.04.26 annex a, xx.04.31, xx.04.15. I am more than happy to try another one.

Thanks very much for the replies.

The only recovery program that will work in your environment is 14.04.26 English Annex A. This is the one I already gave you the link in the post above. Try that one again, maybe several times to be successful.

I realised my mistake. I had my windows firewall on while the antivirus firewall was off. Does it means that windows firewall does not block ftp connection but blocks the connection to the recovery program? After turning off both firewalls I could connect using recovery program. But here 14.04.26 english annex A did not work. Neither did 14.04.15 or 14.04.26. Probably I did not set up the environment variables correctly. Anyway, I went back to 14.04.01/04/06/26b english in that order. Now I have 14.04.26 english annex b in the box and the web interface is also working. That is an achievement.

Now I have to convert the English Annex B 14.04.26 to Annex A.

I have a 1&1 branded Fritz!Box Fon WLAN 7050 (Series 2000 2306) with German firmware 14.4.33 and Annex B. I am trying to convert it to Annex A and an English firmware. I have read the linked guide (from your post) and was not able to successfully accomplish the bootloader change. Could you please provide some insight, or additional instructions? Thanks.
