Converting a German targeted Fritz!Box Fon Wlan to an International version

fritsv schrieb:
Yes you can, however I was talking about the international version which has different hardware [modem especially] and is made to plug into amongst others the BT system [hardware is Annex A]

Ah right I understand now - I _would_ prefer to go for the official UK/international version but the prices are just not acceptable at the moment.

Now I'm thinking about it doesn't the 7050 support USB fairly well too? I mean it supports mass storage devices, printers.

I can't tell the difference other than USB Host for 7170 and USB client for 7050, but I'm not sure what that actually means.

Yes I see [about the prices]
Drawback for the international version is also that you do not get the lab-versions and generally speaking your are always 1 or 2 firmware versions behind of the German ones.
As you can see from my signature I also took the plunge, bought myself a used German 7170, and undertook to convert it to Annex A.
It has been serving me well for the last 3 months.
However the menu's are in German so if you want to do the same you will have to brave it

The 7050 has a USB port, but it can only be used to give Internet access to a computer (a bit strange, yes, but since it only has 2 RJ45 ports, I guess AVM thought USB would be better than RJ45 for the 3th computer ;-)

On the 71xx this is a "USB host", so you can share your printer or memory stick/harddisk there.

It's lucky you said that, somebody is selling one on eBay right now. Item states that USB mass storage devices can be used with a 7050. :-/

Hi,
During the firmware recover however it said

"Searching FRITZ!BOX Fon WLAN 7050 (Annnex A) at : 192.168.178.2
One system found! - Detecting the current version.
Could not determine the version!

Hello,
Sorry for posting a bit off-topic, but I don't know German and can't find a more suitable topic and I'm desperate with what happened:
I have got the same problem after upgrading the firmware on my FRITZ!BOX Fon WLAN 7140 from 39.04.20 to 39.04.34 (image name is fritz.box_fon_wlan_7140.annexa.en.39.04.34.image). The upgrade went well, but right after that I can not access Fritz!Box web interface (or ftp) at 192.168.178.1, 192.168.178.2 or 192.168.178.254 or ping them, although Wi-Fi and the Ethernet parts seem to work. I tried the recovery tool for versions 39.04.20 and 39.04.34, but it writes "Could not determine the version" exactly as above. Is there anything that can be done before sending device to AVM?

Does the box still give you an IP address via DHCP? What is the default gateway? Can you do http to this gateway?

There's a hack for that but I don't know how well it works. However, I understand all Fritzbox USB ports are version 1.1 only so you can't expect too much performance anyway.

It does not give me an IP address via DHCP. But I tried putting my workstation in 192.168.{0,1,178,179,180,181,182}.0 networks and going via http to .1, .2 and .254 addresses - no luck.

Did you try 169.254.1.1? The newer firmware versions use that as the default IP. Make sure your computer is in the same subnet.

Thanks, you have been most helpful! The box looks OK.

But I have one pressing issue remaining - can't figure out how to make Fritz!Box act as a NAT/DHCP server in front of the cable modem. I would appreciate if you could help me with this - http://www.ip-phone-forum.de/showthread.php?p=911706.

I have an 7050 (branded by "1&1") and would like to convert it to Annex A.

What scripts will work with my current firmware 14.04.33?

I just figured out that the "firmware updates" are just scripts and hence the current firmware is left intact, right?

I'd be happy to do everything via telnet, if possible at all.

I don't need an English interface or anything extra, just the Annex A option.

Regards,

Tomcat
