The firmware controls the ADSL modem and router functions. Start by downloading the firmware to a disk drive on your computer, then load it into the device.

hallo I am living in morocco and using FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170, if i try to upgrade firmware i get this message: The firmware update failed: The specified file does not contain any valid firmware for your device.
but the box detected the file !
this box is a original Annex B ! but i bought it already changed into Annex A - what i can do to upgrade ? best regards Danny PS: Antworten natürlich auch auf deutsch

Läuft seit knappe 24 Stunden sehr gut auf einer org. 7140 AT, DSL Syncs. (Fehler) sind von AT/CH gesehen einen Tick besser als die vorherige 7170 Firmware und natürlich auch der alten 7140 AT/CH Firmware.

Getestet ca. 24 Stunden, Daten übertragen 15000 MB

@targanit: if your actual firmware is already english, you have to set environment variable "annex" to A before firmware update.

echo "annex A" > proc/sys/urlader/environment

As this parameter is only changed temporarily, you have to do this every time you want do update the firmware.


To install the internaltional AnnexA firmware to original AnnexB boxes, you have to change some more environment variables

connect to the box via telnet:

# set hardware revision to 7170 international Annex A
echo "HWRevision 127" > proc/sys/urlader/environment

# set firmware language to 7170 english
# ATTENTION: after changing language, WebIF is no more accessible -> firmware recovery is necessary. 
# Download latest [URL="ftp://ftp.avm.de/fritz.box/fritzbox.fon_wlan_7170/x_misc/english/annex_a/FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.AnnexA.en.04.76.recover-image.exe"]AnnexA recovery[/URL] form AVM before executing following command
echo "firmware_version avme" > proc/sys/urlader/environment

After firmware recovery is done, check if firmware runs in AnnexA (DSL-Info page). If Annex is still B:

# set modem Annex to A 
echo "kernel_args_annex=A" > /proc/sys/urlader/environment

SUPER !!!! it worked !! it was my first operation with telnet, i used hyperterminal and had to find out a few things first, but so far so good !!

Inzwischen gibt es auch die deutschsprachige Austria/Schweiz Edition (Annex A) in der 76er Version.

Firmware upgrade auf Schweizer Version

Hallo,

ich versuche schon seit gestern mit Hilfe dieses Threads meine originale Fritzbox 7170 (Version 29.04.80) auf die Schweizer Annex A Firmware (Version 58.04.76) zu patchen. Wie oben beschrieben habe ich via telnet die Änderungen vorgenommen danach starte ich via WebIF ein Firmware upgrade mit dem File FRITZ.Box_Fon_WLAN_7170.AnnexA.58.04.76.image.

Leider bekomme ich immer wieder die Meldung dass die Firmware nicht für diese Fritzbox ist und das Update wird abgebrochen.

Kann jemand helfen bzw mir sagen was ich falsch mache?

So, geschafft. Hier ein kleiner Erfahrungsbericht der letzten Stunde.

- Erstmaliges ausführen des ruKernelTool
- genaues vorgehen nach der Anleitung
- upgrade der Box auf 58.04.76
- Misserfolg -> Box hängt in einer Rebootschleife
- Ausführung der Fritzbox Recovery für 29.04.80
- nächster Versuch
- ruKernelTool -> Anleitung lesen -> erneutes upgrade auf 58.04.76
- Erfolg Jippppiiiiiiiii

Box läuft bisher ohne Probleme! Mal schauen ob das auch heute Abend so ist wenn ich die Box ans DSL hänge und meine Zugangsdaten rein schiebe.
